On
behalf of the Australian Society for Simulation in Healthcare I would
like to express our sorrow at the passing of Beverlee Anderson. It is
clear that Beverlee was seen as a mother figure for the Society for
Simulation in Healthcare: perhaps she can be seen as a grandmother for
those of us in the Australian Society – unfortunately a grandmother
that not many had the chance to get to know. As one who was fortunate
enough to have known Beverlee for many years, I echo the many comments
regarding her energy, passion and commitment to further the cause of
simulation in healthcare, and her brilliant and beautiful ability to
suggest the correct course of action, but make it seem like it was your
idea! She will be sadly missed. We extend our condolences to her
husband, family and friends.

Beverlee
was a tremendous talent, a tireless worker, and relentless in her
determination to make the Society an exemplary organization. I will
always remember her spirit and humor, and miss her deeply.

On
behalf of the Society in Europe for Simulation Applied to Medicine
(SESAM), its members and its Executive Committee, I would like to state
our deep pitty and grief over Beverlee's passing. We will miss her very
much as the wounderful person as whom many of us knew her. We will miss
her for her enthusiastic support of the society and the case of
simulation. We would like to send our condolences to her family and
friends.
On a personal note, I would like to add a memory of Beverlee as a
person who was always helpful and friendly. The workload could not be
too high and the questions not be too stupid - Beverlee always had a
friendly and calming word.
-Peter Dieckmann, President SESAM |
Ms
B was a tremendous support and mentor to me during my years on the
Board of the Society of Trauma Nurses, another organization that was
shaped and nutured by Beverlee's unique influence and tremendous skills
and dedication. Thank You Miz Beverlee, you will be missed but you have
left a legacy...
-Kate FitzPatrick, RN MSN CRNP |
We loved you, Beverlee. You guided the Society for Technology in Anesthesia through some really tough times.
-Franklin Scamman, MD |
I
echo all of the sentiments that others have contributed. My memories
are as a very new and inexperienced Associate Editor who could always
call on her support and advice. I shall miss the meetings and I shall
miss hearing her voice during our teleconference calls.
Beverlee, I am sorry that you never got the chance to fish in my country's finest lochs and rivers.
-Ronnie Glavin |
What
a wonderful, cheerful, competent, helpful, and gracious person. So many
nice memories of my friend, who so often helped me with presentations
and meeting rooms, and the conduct of the original ASA simulation
workgroup. I will miss her, and my sympathy goes out to her family.

Beverlee
was a force. She taught me about leadership and guided me through the
challenges and joys of growing an organization. Beverlee just had a
knack for getting the best out of a group of quirky, brilliant,
self-assured professionals. She made people with full-time jobs want to
spend their spare time working for the cause of simulation, and that
was good for all of us. We wouldn't be where we are today without
Beverlee.
-Lisa Sinz, Past-President SSH |
We send our deepest condolences to Beverlee’s husband, her sons and their families.

Beverlee you are going to be sorely missed. Your tireless work in the society was truly AMAZING! Your family is in our prayers.

It
is with great sadness that I (as all of us) learned of Beverlee's
unanticipated passing. It is without question in my mind that our
Society would not exist without her fundamental energies and passion,
as the charter Executive Director, key organizer, visionary, friend,
and as we on the Board called her, "Mom". Because of her vast
experiences within other organizations, coupled with a keen sense of
purpose and wisdom, she had this uncanny, almost eerie way, when faced
with a major decision, of cocking her head, looking at you out of the
corner of her eye, and telling you exactly what needed to be. She was,
indeed, a lady of intense leadership capacity, loyalty to a cause, and
passion toward improving healthcare delivery via the tool of simulation
based techniques. Bev, we will miss you, and strive on.

To Bill and Beverlee's family,
Beverlee was so special to us at SSH. She served as a mentor, a role
model and a friend to so many. We wll miss her deeply. Thank you
sharing her with the SSH for so many years. I will keep you in my
thoughts and prayers and hope to see you at the upcoming IMSH in
Phoenix, January 23-27th, where we will honor Beverlee in a special way.
-Robin Wootten, Executive Director |
This
news makes me so sad. Beverlee was amazing. Kind, funny, remarkably and
consistently capable. A true loss for all, and not just at SSH. My
sincerest wishes to her family for strength and peace.

Beverlee
was one of the first people we talked to in regards of getting the

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Beverlee Anderson.
Beverlee was the first Executive Director of the Society for Simulation
in Healthcare. Working with Dan Raemer, David Gaba, and many others,
she was instrumental in the initial incorporation and creation of the
Society for Simulation in Healthcare. Because of her tireless efforts
and personal concern for SSH and its members, Beverlee has been
nicknamed the Mother of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
Since her retirement as Executive Director in 2008, Beverlee remained
on staff as the Managing Editor of the SSH journal, Simulation in
Healthcare. She deeply cared about the members of SSH and remained very
passionate about the mission.
Beverlee will be missed and remembered by all who knew her. To quote
the words of Dr. Barry Issenberg and Dr. Marcus Rall, written in 2008:
"There is no other individual more responsible for the development,
growth and maturation of the SSH and its annual meeting. Her tireless
commitment to excellence, professionalism, guidance, mentoring and
friendship deserve our sincerest thanks and deepest gratitude."
We will have a special celebration of Beverlee’s life and contribution
to the SSH at the upcoming International Meeting on Simulation in
Healthcare in Phoenix, January 23-27, 2010.
The Board of Directors and the SSH staff would like to send our deepest
condolences to Beverlee’s husband Bill, her sons Marshall and McGowan
and their families, and her extended circle of family and friends. We
will keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers during this very
difficult time.
