June Presidential Message - Reason(s) for positivity > The Society for Simulation in Healthcare

Greetings fellow Simulationists! I hope you are well, properly PPE-ed, and remaining positive. There is a lot to be positive about, you know!

The Society is preparing a statement to address historical and recent acts of racism, prejudice, and brutality. The fact that social and cultural conditions demand such a statement is woeful. That said, the fact that people are engaging in dialogue, soul searching, and protesting gives me hope that we can bring about the positive changes necessary within our societies and cultures.

SSIH.org web traffic – one measure of member engagement – is WAY UP. SSIH.org has had an unprecedented number of engagements since COVID-19 changed the status quo. Our SimSeries attendance has been high, and many of you have contributed to and relied upon the COVID-19 Resources page. Involvement has been through the roof, which speaks to your willingness to share and learn together. We are truly a community of givers! It is humbling to be part of an organization that provides such valuable leadership and information from throughout our industry.

Our summer meeting, “SimOps DELIVERS”, is a go! The SSH staff have worked diligently to create a completely new virtual format that we hope makes this valuable content available to more simulationists than would typically attend the conference. The SimOps content delivery model is not just necessary, but also critical to ensuring that our members have fewer obstacles to overcome as they seek to learn and grow. Accredited programs can take advantage of special pricing for your staff members, too! Register through the link above!

The IMSH 2021 Planning Committee and SSH Staff are creating two format options for January's IMSH 2021 conference in New Orleans. We understand travel will likely be – at best – challenging. One IMSH option includes both on-site and virtual/synchronous/asynchronous content. The second option involves only virtual/synchronous/asynchronous content. We anticipate making a format decision in September/October so that you can plan accordingly, so stand by.

Before then, Healthcare Simulation Week (Sept. 14-20) will be here before you know it! If you have not started your planning or need official logos, ads, and other resources, the Healthcare Simulation Toolkit will be online THIS WEEK for you through the link above! Also, merchandise is again available for you through our Healthcare Simulation Week store! Get your orders in now, and you will have it in plenty of time ahead of the celebration.

Lastly, over the past few weeks I have had the opportunity to participate in many SSH Committee meetings. Please know this: YOUR SSH is in good hands, folks. Our Committees are focused and committed, and it is motivating to see these dedicated professionals in action. I thank all of our Committee members for your willingness to serve!

I encourage you to remain diligent mask wearers, hand washers, and positive thinkers!
