April 14, 2014:  The Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) is pleased to announce the Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator-Advanced (CHSE-A) certification is now open to all qualified applicants. "This certification is a great step forward. It recognizes those exemplary individuals who are the leaders in healthcare simulation education, and provides a professional development path for those who have achieved, or will achieve CHSE," says Sharon Decker, RN, PhD, ANEF, FAAN, Chair, Certification Committee.

The pilot phase resulted in sixteen individuals receiving the CHSE-A designation. These individuals were recognized at the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) recently held in San Francisco, California.

SSH now invites all qualified applicants to submit their portfolio to be considered to become a CHSE-A.   This certification has been developed to recognize the leaders and mentors in the field of healthcare simulation who have demonstrated a very high level of expertise in healthcare simulation.  The application is a portfolio-based application and focuses on the applicant's demonstration of their expertise in healthcare simulation, and their position as advanced professional in the field.  All interested applicants should visit www.ssih.org/Certification/CHSE-A for details.

SSH is a multi-disciplinary, multi-specialty, international society with ties to all medical specialties, nursing, allied health, paramedical personnel, simulation technologist, simulation technician and industry. CHSE was developed in concert with the SSH mission to lead in facilitating excellence in multi-specialty healthcare simulation modalities. The CHSE-A program is an extension offering for advanced educators. CHSE and CHSE-A were developed over a number of years with the input of individuals representing a wide variety of backgrounds and experience in healthcare simulation.
