The Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) announced the results of the election to the 2015 SSH Board of Directors.  Chad A. Epps, MD, Associate Professor and Director of Simulation, University of Alabama Birmingham will become the society’s President-Elect. As President-Elect, he will take office January 1, 2015 and will succeed to the office of President in 2016.  Epps has served as Chair of the Accreditation Committee and Vice Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee.

Katie Walker, RN, MIB, was elected Secretary for a two-year term. Walker is Director of the New York Health and Hospital’s Corporation Simulation Program. She has served as Treasurer, was a member of the 2010 International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare Planning Committee and a member of the 2011 Asia-Pacific Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare Planning Committee.

Jayne Smitten, PhD, RN, CHSE, CHSE-A was elected Director-at-Large for a three-year term. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor, University of Alberta and Past Co-Director for the Clinical Simulation Centre at the University of Calgary-Qatar. She has served on the Research Committee and as an Accreditation Site Reviewer.


 

Members continuing on the board include Pamela B. Andreatta, EdD PhD, MFA, MA, Associate Professor, University of Minnesota Medical School who shall succeed to the office of SSH President on January 1, 2015. Pamela R. Jeffries, PhD, RN, FAAN, ANEF, will continue on the Board of Directors in the role of Immediate Past-President. She is Provost for Digital Initiatives at Johns Hopkins University. Jeffries led a strategic planning initiative during a year highlighted by the first regional meeting, Sim Ops, held in Pittsburgh in July 2014.

Also continuing are Directors- at- Large Adam Cheng, MD; Hyun Soo Chung, MD, PhD; Joseph O. Lopreiato MD, MPH; Don Combs, PhD; Christine Park, MD; Mary Anne Rizzolo, EdD, RN, FAAN, ANEF; Tom LeMaster, RN, MSN, MEd, REMT-P; SiH Editor in Chief David Gaba, MD; and Executive Director Jennifer Manos, RN, MSN, MBA.

The Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) was established in 2004 by professionals using simulation for education, testing, and research in healthcare. Membership is representative of all healthcare disciplines and is comprised of researchers, educators, and developers from around the globe. SSH fosters the improvement and application of simulation-based modalities such as human patient simulators, virtual reality, standardized patients and task trainers.
