March President's Message: ALOHA! > The Society for Simulation in Healthcare
JOIN/RENEW SSH
15

Aloha, Simulationists, my colleagues and friends!

Mahalo (Thank you!) to everyone who participated, contributed and engaged in the many offerings for SSH and our members at IMSH 2023 in Orlando, Florida. Our future appears brighter with increasing connections to our affiliated organizations, government officials, industry partners, and our global simulation community at large.

I am grateful for your support and the opportunity to lead this dynamic and progressive organization as your SSH President for the next term. I look forward to supporting the efforts of the SSH Board that represents You, SSH Members.  I am also open to hearing from you directly with any queries, recommendations or suggestions you may have.

IMSH 2023 was an incredible gathering of our society and industry! The implied expression of “continuing to surf the wave of energy” from colleagues has been conveyed in reflections of many members who were able to participate.  IMSH data continues to indicate SSH is making impacts and that we are in an exciting time of growth!

Some Key Performance Indicators revealed: a record-breaking in-person attendance of more than 4,200 individuals; a record-breaking 31,400 square feet of exhibition booth space; and 136 exhibiting companies (including 32 first-timers!) from 17 countries!

Additionally, the brand new SSH Fund Development initiative, led by Jennifer Calzada, met our IMSH 2023 goal!  Bravo Jenny & to You, the Membership, for the early successes!

Preceding IMSH 2023 was the SSH Research Summit, another extraordinary highlight! Incredible research is emerging and impacting our societies globally. The springboard effect of these research collaborations, with the future implementation of healthcare simulation practice guidelines, is certain to make an impact.

Looking ahead, we have much to do this spring after a very productive strategic planning session in November by your Board of Directors. Now, the work begins towards development of objectives and defining actionable items from the Strategic Plan priority determinants:

- Sustainability & Growth
- Research & Innovation
- Education
- Credentialing
- Individual Advocacy
- Organizational Advocacy
- Legislative Advocacy

I look forward to a productive 2023 — working together with the Board, Staff, and hearing from you, our vital membership —  building on the work of my presidential predecessors and continuing to learn and grow in our specialty domains. Engaging the explosion of new technologies, designed to enhance and improve our standards of excellence, is also another fascinating footprint creating growth and progression in our worlds of simulation. So much to learn in making our societies better…

Again, thank you for everything you all do for both the world of healthcare simulation and society. Please do feel free to reach me by email or on Linkedin and Twitter. I’m always happy to hear from our Simulation O’hana (family).

Here’s to a phenomenal 2023 and breaking more records at IMSH 2024 in San Diego Jan.21-25, 2024!

Mahalo nui loa (’til we meet again)…
