Greetings, SSH Community!
I hope this note finds you all in great spirits. We’re right in the middle of the Olympic Games in Paris — a fantastic time for the world to unite, marvel, and cheer together! As we step into August, I'm excited to share some updates about upcoming events and programs. Our community is flourishing because of your unwavering dedication and passion for healthcare simulation!
For SSH members, August marks the election season. Be on the lookout for an email you should have received from SSH to vote for this year's candidates for President-elect, Secretary, and At-Large Board Member. We are counting on you for an exceptional turnout this year! If you did not receive an email and would like to vote, please email Taylor Jessup.
On August 1, I had the honor to open an historic event to announce a pioneering partnership between the SSH and the Sociedad Mexicana de Simulación en Ciencias de la Salud (SOMESCIS) through the launch of a groundbreaking Accreditation agreement, facilitated by the newly established Commission for International Simulation Accreditation (CISA). This initiative represents more than a decade of rigorous development and refinement of accreditation standards by SSH, tailored now to embrace our International Affiliate Organizations like SOMESICS. The signing ceremony was attended by our Accreditation Council leadership, SSH Executive leadership, SOMESICS leadership including President Edgar Herrera and leaders from our other international affiliate organizations in South America.
Healthcare Simulation Week 2024 - Are you ready?
Healthcare Simulation Week 2024 is rapidly approaching, set to take place from September 16-20. This year, under the theme "Launchpad to Legacy: What's Your Next?", the event offers a unique opportunity to share goals, collaborate, and drive advancements in the field. Whether you are pursuing certification, aiming for program accreditation, new to healthcare simulation, or looking to mentor future professionals, this week serves as a platform to showcase your ambitions and gain insights from peers.
As we countdown to this celebration, we invite you to highlight your contributions by sharing your events on our calendar, visiting the official store and grabbing your gifts, giveaways, and team appreciation gear, and ensuring your organization is visible on our map for #hcsimweek24. With just a little than one month remaining, now is the perfect time to start planning your involvement. Download all or part of the Healthcare Simulation Toolkit and make the most of this opportunity to spotlight yourself, your organization, and the broader field during Healthcare Simulation Week.
Why Should You Certify?
We are also one month away from the September 1 deadline for the Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator-Advanced® (CHSE-A®) and Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist-Advanced (CHSOS-A) applications. These certifications are portfolio-based recognitions for leaders in healthcare simulation. Both certifications identify those who have demonstrated advanced expertise and leadership, either in educational or operational roles, and serve as mentors and role models within the field. Individuals seeking to showcase their high level of expertise in these areas are encouraged to apply for the relevant certification.
Why should you certify?
- Receive formal professional recognition of your specialized knowledge, skills, abilities and accomplishments in simulation education.
- Confirm your commitment to continued professional development and lifelong learning.
- Receive international recognition for your professional accomplishments
- Demonstrate your skills and specialized knowledge to employers, practitioners and the public
Thank you, SimOps 2024!
I recently returned from SimOps 2024, held July 17-19, in Aurora, Colorado. Thanks to our gracious hosts at Children’s Hospital Colorado. What an event! A big shout-out of appreciation to our SimOps 2024 Co-chairs, Johnny Cartwright, CHSOS-A, Michael Norris, CHSOS-A, and Whitney Smith, CHSE for their incredible effort and leadership. This year’s theme was "SOAR: Simulation Operations: Achieve. Redefine." It was amazing to see everyone's innovative programs and collaborative efforts pushing the boundaries of simulation operations.
Looking ahead, we’re gearing up for IMSH 2025, our 25th anniversary meeting. The theme "Looking Back, Reaching Forward" sets the perfect tone for this milestone. Mark your calendars; registration opens in September!
Hope you all enjoy a fantastic August. Take care and stay healthy!
Warm regards,
Dr. Barry Issenberg
2024-25 SSH President
