For the position of: President
It is an honor to seek your continued support as I serve the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). My longstanding commitment to SSH's mission is reflected in my leadership roles across committees,
interdisciplinary collaborations, and advocacy efforts to advance healthcare simulation. Like many SSH members, my passion for simulation-based education is rooted in over 20 years of clinical experience as a nurse and nurse practitioner. As a first-generation college graduate, I turned to simulation to build the confidence and competence I needed at the bedside, making it only natural that I found a home in this organization.
I currently serve as Executive Committee At-Large Member on the SSH Board of Directors and am completing my second term on the Finance and Audit Committee. In these roles, I have helped ensure the Society's financial stability, even amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. I have also played a key role in aligning resources with SSH's strategic goals, supporting the successful execution of our five-year plan, and ensuring we remain positioned for sustainable growth and ongoing impact.
As the Associate Dean for Simulation & Immersive Learning at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, I oversee simulation education and research initiatives and collaborate across the university to advance the use of technology in teaching and learning.
As we face unprecedented challenges in the healthcare workforce, simulation offers a vital opportunity to support, train, and sustain future clinicians. To maximize this impact, we must unify our voices around a shared advocacy strategy and clear goals. Through collective action, we can expand access, drive innovation, and position simulation as a central pillar of healthcare education. As a member of the SSH Advocacy Committee, I am committed to advancing simulation-based education and improving clinical outcomes on a global scale. Most recently, I secured the Johns Hopkins Nexus funding to lead a national convening, " Shaping the Future of the Healthcare Workforce: Policy and Best Practice Recommendations for the Use of Simulation for Healthcare Education," which brought together leaders from SSH, INACSL, ASPE, GNSH, and key stakeholders across nursing, medicine, and education. This collaboration developed a shared vision and policy agenda for using simulation to address the healthcare workforce shortage and drive innovation in healthcare education.
Over the next three years, I will continue to build on SSH's standing as a global leader in healthcare simulation by advancing efforts that promote equitable, competency-based education and technology-driven innovation. I will focus on three key priorities:
- Strengthen the SSH's financial and strategic capacity to grow its global membership, research initiatives, and professional development programs.
- Advance best practices and frameworks for XR, AI, and other emerging technologies in simulation education and assessment.
- Enhance mentorship, leadership development, and policy advocacy to expand simulation's role in transforming healthcare.
I am deeply grateful for the community, scholarship, and opportunities SSH has given me. I am fully committed to giving back through collaborative leadership, passionate advocacy, and a bold vision for a future-ready healthcare workforce. Thank you for your trust and consideration. I would be honored to serve and help shape the next chapter of our Society together.
