Committees

The Accreditation Committee shall be responsible for assuring the integrity of the Society’s accreditation program; including standards, policies, procedures, and processes; and for verifying that all requisite compliance, regulatory and quality standards are met and maintained.



The Committee for Accreditation of Healthcare Simulation Programs, started in 2010, has awarded Accreditation to institutions in Canada, Australia, China, the Caribbean, and across the United States.

Programs are awarded accreditation in one or more of the following areas:

Assessment
Research
Teaching/ Education
Systems Integration.
Accreditation Application Information

Provisional Accreditation allows programs with established structure and processes, but have not yet achieved outcomes to apply for preliminary accreditation.

The SSH Advocacy Committee (approved in 2024 via ByLaws vote) is responsible for developing and coordinating activities to execute the Society’s policy and advocacy agenda. This committee also creates tools and methods that members can use to serve in advocacy roles on behalf of the Society. The committee employs an integrated approach to ensure broad impact, including interacting with government and standard setting leaders and organizations, forging partnerships, engaging advocates, and fostering issue campaigns as needed.

The Certification Council shall be responsible for assuring the integrity of the Society’s certification program; including standards, policies, procedures, and processes; and for verifying that all requisite compliance, regulatory and quality standards are met and maintained.

Corporate Roundtable

The Development Committee is responsible for furthering the healthcare simulation field through donor support.

The SSH Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee supports the strategic goals of the Society as they pertain to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Committee’s focus and work ensures that voices are both represented and heard at every level of SSH - from the Board level and outward through committees, sections, research summits, and the greater simulation community.

The Education Committee shall support the membership in developing and implementing their abilities to use simulation-based methods in healthcare education.

Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) Mission Statement

The Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) will deliver professional development opportunities for interprofessional healthcare teams working to improve the practice of healthcare through simulation-based education. This mission will be accomplished through the provision of interprofessional continuing education (IPCE) activities designed to improve both individual and team performance in simulation.

The External Relations Committee shall be responsible for engaging with other organizations, both domestic and international, including other professional societies, associations and networks, healthcare practitioners and providers, the simulation industry, governmental agencies, and the public, to ensure that all Society programming with external partners contributes directly to the fulfillment of the Society’s mission and goals.

The Finance and Audit Committee shall be responsible for developing the annual Society budget, and reviewing and authorizing internal and external financial audits as required by applicable laws or as otherwise deemed necessary to effectively provide oversight for the Society’s financial status and integrity. The Finance and Audit Committee shall provide financial reports, recommendations, and guidance to the Board of Directors.

The Finance and Audit Committee has approved setting aside a portion of its net assets to establish a strategic initiative fund. The purpose will be to provide one-time or start-up funding for new projects judged by the Board to be of strategic importance. If the project is envisioned as a long-term source of funding for SSH, then the time frame for generating excess revenue to repay the Strategic Initiative Fund initially and eventually to support the SSH Operating Budget should generally not exceed three to four years.

The governance committee shall be responsible for developing processes to ensure annual board
evaluation/quality of performance, board orientation, conflict of interest disclosure, management and
resolution, and ongoing board education. The Governance committee shall also be responsible for
performing an annual Bylaws review by the end of the first quarter of the fiscal year (September 30th), as
required to effectively provide oversight of the Society’s institutional integrity and governance. The
Governance committee shall conduct an annual review of board committee functions and structure. The
Governance Committee shall provide recommendations for Bylaw changes and guidance to The Board of
Directors for documenting and implementing modifications to the Society’s operational or governance
structure. The Governance committee shall also be responsible for developing the process and ensuring
implementation of an annual performance review of the Executive Director, Editor in Chief, and other
positions as directed by the Board.

The Internal Relations Committee shall support the growth, development and advancement of the general membership, Sections, Special Interest Groups (SIGs), and Affinity Groups (AG) by developing and facilitating collaboration between and within interest groups, other Society committees, administration and the Board of Directors.

The Meetings Oversight Commission supports the mission of SSH by providing longitudinal guidance related to the location, structure, and planning of all simulation meetings including, annual, international, and regional meetings sponsored by the Society. The Meetings Oversight Commission works closely with the Finance and Audit Committee to make recommendations regarding costs, honoraria, and conflicts of interest. This commission is responsible for recommending Planning Committee chair(s) for all Society-sponsored conferences and for approving keynote speakers.

The Nominations Committee shall be responsible for facilitating the Society’s annual elections by soliciting and vetting nominations for open Board of Director and Executive Officer positions, and preparing an election slate of no more than three (3) qualified nominees for each office for ratification by the Executive Committee. The slate of nominees must comply with Society bylaws.

Research Committee

Simulation in Healthcare is the official publication of the SSH, and is available in print and electronic formats to members. Electronically the journal is available via the web. Your electronic subscription to the Journal is included with your SSH Membership. Members living in North America receive the printed journal by mail.

Simulation in Healthcare is a multidisciplinary publication encompassing all areas of applications and research in healthcare simulation technology. The journal, indexed in Index Medicus/MEDLINE and the Science Citation Index, is relevant to a broad range of clinical and biomedical specialties, and will publish original basic, clinical, and translational research on these topics and more.
