For the position of: President
I am honored to be a candidate for President of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. My motivation stems from a deep commitment to advancing healthcare simulation across professions, systems, and global communities.
I have served SSH in numerous leadership roles, including Secretary of the Board of Directors, Director-at-Large, Chair of the Hospital-Based Simulation Programs Section, and Board Liaison to the Education, Technology, and DEI Committees. These roles have equipped me with the insight and relationships to support SSH’s strategic direction and vision for the future.
My contributions span key initiatives including accreditation, certification, the Research Summit on Distance Simulation, the Global Consensus Statement on Simulation, and the Joint Position Statement on Simulation-Based Education in EMS Education. I am currently working with leaders from INACSL, SimGHOSTS, and ASPE to secure professional classification of simulation roles with the US Department of Labor—advancing SSH’s advocacy and strengthening our impact across healthcare systems. These efforts support our pillars of scholarship, research, professional development, and lifelong learning, demonstrating my commitment to innovation and to simulation as a core modality in health professions education.
SSH has a proud history of progress in best practices, research, and advocacy. Looking ahead, we must ensure this work is shared and integrated. Simulation must remain a driver of healthcare transformation—improving patient outcomes and shaping education at all levels.
I began my career in IT and as a paramedic, then entered simulation as an Operations Specialist. I later earned an MS in Medical and Healthcare Simulation and am completing a PhD in Health Professions Education. My career has taken me to diverse settings—Antarctica, Kazakhstan, Arkansas, Iowa, and now Dartmouth Health in New Hampshire. These experiences have shaped my belief in the power of collaboration—a pillar that sustains our field globally.
Beyond SSH, I’ve contributed to INACSL’s Standards of Best Practice, leading the Operations Committee and serving on the Simulation Design, Professional Development, Prebriefing, and Glossary Committees. With SimGHOSTS, I served as Secretary of the Board and co-chaired the S3 Conference Planning Committee. These roles fostered cross-organizational collaboration and reflect a broader commitment to innovation and thought leadership.
My vision for SSH over the next three years centers on three priorities aligned with our Strategic Plan:
- Enhance collaboration and community-building by deepening partnerships within and beyond SSH.
- Expand our global presence to strengthen our role as a voice of simulation internationally.
- Advance research and professional development through mentorship, funding, and partnerships with accrediting bodies.
Leadership is not only about vision—it’s about connection, execution, and shared purpose. With experience spanning education, operations, and global engagement, I am eager to support our community’s next chapter. It would be a privilege to serve as your President and help move SSH—and healthcare simulation—forward, together.
I look forward to sharing more with you in the weeks and months to come.
