One of the most impactful ways to engage within SSH is through its Sections, Special Interest Groups (SIGs), and Affinity Groups. These communities offer targeted platforms for members to connect based on shared interests, specialties, or demographics. Whether focused on areas like nursing, surgery, research, or diversity, these groups allow individuals to dive deeper into niche topics, stay updated on the latest trends, and contribute to advancing best practices in their field.

A key benefit of participating in these groups is the opportunity for professional development. Members often gain access to exclusive webinars, workshops, and discussions tailored to their specific interests. They can contribute to white papers, help design simulation-based curricula, or participate in multi-institutional research projects.

For those looking to enhance their leadership skills, there are numerous chances to take on committee roles, organize events, or present at conferences — experiences that can elevate a member’s professional profile while contributing meaningfully to the simulation community.

Finally, SSH’s Sections, SIGs, and Affinity Groups foster a sense of community and mentorship that can be instrumental throughout a member’s career. These networks offer safe spaces to exchange ideas, troubleshoot challenges, and celebrate successes with like-minded peers. Whether you're an experienced simulationist or just entering the field, these groups create lasting professional relationships and open doors to collaboration across institutions, regions, and disciplines. In a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, being part of such vibrant and supportive subcommunities within SSH is both empowering and essential.

The Sections, SIGs and Affinity Groups will be holding in person meetings at IMSH and welcome all to attend to learn more about becoming involved!  Several groups will also be holding informal, open house style networking opportunities in San Antonio.  Keep an eye on the schedule for more information to come soon.

Be sure to check out our newest groups which include:

  • Inclusive Simulation and Mentoring (INSIM) Affinity Group
  • Workplace Violence Prevention Affinity Group

All groups can be joined via your SSH Profile. Once you have logged in, click on the Account tab.  Scroll to the bottom and check the box next to any groups you wish to join. Be sure to click save at the end, and you will officially be in the group!

Please note, Affinity Groups are open to both SSH members and non-members that have a free account. Special Interest Groups and Sections are open to SSH members only.

Hopefully, you join one (or more!) soon, and we see you there!
