OVERVIEW: This interactive panel presentation led by leaders in obstetrics simulation running programs from different settings (academic, urban, municipal, statewide, socialized) will highlight how each program adapted to the new TJC accreditation requirements (i.e. perinatal standards) on in-situ simulation in labor and delivery. The team will review in detail TJC requirements and provide specific examples of how TJC site visits unfolded in different geographic and practice settings within the last year. Each panelist will highlight how they pivoted their programs to assure compliance with regulatory requirements and innovated further to use in-situ simulation in maternity units to change culture, improve patient safety, deliver programs across multiple sites in a standardized way, mitigate legal risk and improve patient outcomes during COVID and post-COVID eras.
There will be ample opportunities for interactive Q & A and discussion among panelists and participants throughout the session.
Objectives:
- Describe the simulation component of the new perinatal TJC (the Joint Commission) standards with regard to accreditation requirements
- Identify ways to apply the new standards to in-situ obstetrical simulation programs
- Describe innovation in in-situ obstetrical simulation programmatic development to meet patients safety goals
