SimOps 2021: UNIFY, being held in the Tampa, Florida, July 14-16, 2021 at CAMLS - Center For Advanced Medical Learning And Simulation. Now being offered for a seventh year, SSH SimOps is designed to support the professional development of the Simulation Operations Specialist (SOS).
SimOps explores the innovative application of operational technology in a team-based environment. Through the use of new tools, best practices and experiential learning techniques, SimOps enables healthcare simulation professionals to advance their skills while building stronger team connections for the future. Through hands-on learning experiences, inventive demonstrations, a cutting-edge exhibition hall, and the latest research findings impacting simulation operations, SSH SimOps provides a unique experience for the SOS that strengthens the community of practice.
The SimOps 2021 Planning Team proposes the theme, Unify, as a symbol of the common ties that draw all SOS into the field of healthcare simulation. One of the greatest strengths of the Simulation Operations and Technology Section (SOTS) is the vast array of backgrounds and experience brought to the field. Finding commonalities within these varied roles and responsibilities will assist in moving the operations field forward into the future.
The power of the word Unify is unlimited. Not only does it stand as a theme to rally all members of the operations community, it also serves as a reminder that the field is united in one common goal: to improve patient safety. Unify serves as a reminder that cohesiveness within the profession will ultimately guide the field toward the goal of a safer future.
The SimOps 2021 Planning Team wants to encourage attendees to ignite their passion and help create an impulse of positive change as a collective group on the future of healthcare simulation.

Plenary Speakers
Opening Keynote:
Shelita Kimble MEd, BS, CHSOS
Shelita Kimble is the Sr. Systems Analyst with the TIPS (Teaching, Inter-Professional, and Simulation) Education Center at The University of TX MD Anderson Cancer Center. She began her simulation career when she joined the Texas Woman’s University (TWU) School of Nursing Education Center for Clinical Innovations and Advanced Technologies in 2006. Initially, as an Information Technology (IT) consultant, Shelita was tasked with implementing the complex Memorial Hermann Virtual Hospital system, a remote patient monitoring system. In 2007 Shelita was asked to join the team full time as the Nursing Technology Implementation Manager. While at TWU, she participated with the Texas Gulf Coast Regional Faculty Development Grant: Increasing Nursing Capacity by Improving Faculty Competence and Confidence in High-Fidelity Simulation and the Interdisciplinary Clinical Collaborative Practice Project (ICCP), which used targeted TeamSTEPPS™ communication strategies in a simulated clinical environment. Upon completing these grant project initiatives, Shelita transitioned to the Houston Methodist Institute for Technology, Innovation & Education (MITIE) as their Simulation Technician.

Closing Keynotes:
Matthew Charnetski, MSMS
My path to simulation has been a winding one at best. After graduating from Grinnell College with a B.A. in Biology, I joined the United States Antarctic Program working in various roles to support the United States scientific mission based out of McMurdo Station. Returning to the U.S. Matthew worked as an EMT and as a project manager on various electronic medical records implementation projects while attaining his paramedic certification. I worked as a critical care paramedic for the City of West Des Moines and the Iowa EMS Alliance where he still works part time. Getting my start in simulation at Des Moines University as a simulation specialist, I finished mymasters in medical simulation and moved to Kazakhstan to help build the simulation program and center for Nazarbayev University School of Medicine as the Director of Simulation and Standardized Patient Programming. Upon completion of my project there he moved to Jonesboro, AR to assist in the building of the simulation program at the NYIT - Arkansas campus as the Director of Simulation Learning. Currently I am the Director of Simulation Based Education and Research at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. I am also pursuing a PhD in Medical Education focusing on simulation curriculum transfer and cultural competency at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. I continue to be involved in healthcare education and simulation projects in Kazakhstan and is working my way back into my bicycling and skiing roots.
Kati Maxkenzie, MS, CHSOS
Kati Maxkenzie is the Simulation Center Manager at Alameda Health System in Oakland, California. Kati has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a major in Drama from the Queensland University of Technology (Australia), a Master’s in Healthcare Simulation from the University of San Francisco, and is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist and Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator. She was a cochair on the planning committee for the Society for Simulation in Healthcare 2019 SimOps Conference, is faculty for the California Simulation Alliance, and has authored textbook chapters and presented at local, national, and international conferences on multiple topics about simulation operations and SOS career development.
