Happy September to all my fellow Simulationists!

This month’s column is about you and your simulation program. Your Society is dedicated to the professional development of you and your programs to advance patient care. To that end, I wanted to call your attention to a new tool you can use to advance yourself and take advantage of the opportunities to learn and, lead, and grow.

Your SSH Board of Directors has approved a new roadmap for members that will assist you in developing a plan of action in the areas of professional development, leadership, and scholarship. This roadmap can be tailored to your particular needs in healthcare simulation whether you are new to the field or have some experience.

The tool directs you to opportunities for service to the Society that can lead to positions of leadership and responsibility and enhance your credibility as simulation expert. It also highlights the multiple opportunities within our Society for scholarship and leadership, including certification and accreditation, that are key to your own personal growth and that of the field.

Please download and review this new tool and use the information as a guide to all that your Society offers to Healthcare Simulationists.

Member Roadmap

HEALTHCARE SIMULATION WEEK IS NEXT WEEK!

The Society also offers you an opportunity each year to highlight the work you and your colleagues do every day for patient care. Each September, one week is dedicated as Healthcare Simulation Week in order to celebrate and advocate what we do. All the tools you need to help you celebrate are found at:

 https://www.ssih.org/Professional-Development/Healthcare-Simulation-Week-2019

This is a worldwide event that helps publicize to your health system, your community, and your nation the value of your simulation program in improving healthcare delivery and safety.

Use these tools to promote what you do and advocate for expanded programs locally and within your region so that more patients and healthcare leaders become champions for this great work. I encourage all programs around the world to use this week to help celebrate and advance healthcare simulation for the benefit of all.

Sincerely,

Joe Lopreiato, MD, MPH, CHSE, CHSE-A
