Greetings SSH Community!

I hope this message finds you doing well. As we transition into May, a month filled with significant occasions, including school graduations and Mother’s Day, I am excited to share some of the transformative events that lie ahead.

Please join us on May 15 for the highly anticipated Women in Leadership (WIL) Symposium

This is a virtual event for aspiring leaders in healthcare simulation. Themed "Leading with Purpose and Passion," this year's symposium aims to empower healthcare simulation professionals to unlock their full potential. You will gain invaluable insights, strategies, and inspiration from esteemed speakers across the industry. Engage in robust discussions, network with like-minded simulationists, and be a part of this transformative gathering. Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect with colleagues from INACSL, ASPE, and SimGHOSTS.

Education and professional development remain at the heart of our mission.

We are committed to offering a broad spectrum of educational opportunities, both in person and virtually, to ensure that every SSH member has access to the training and resources they need to excel in their careers. Your dedication to continuous improvement and patient safety has propelled our events — like SimOps in July and IMSH in January — to set industry benchmarks. Your active participation and dedication to using our resources are what make SSH the leading healthcare simulation society in the world.

We will continue to expand our offerings and innovate in ways that meet your needs and advance our field. Thank you for your ongoing efforts to better yourselves and enhance the safety of your patients. It is your engagement that truly makes our society exceptional.

May is also a month to celebrate and recognize several key healthcare dates:

NATIONAL NURSES DAY AND WEEK (May 6)

May 6 is National Nurses Day, and National Nurses Week culminates on May 12, Florence Nightengale’s birthday. This year’s theme is “Nurses make the Difference,”  and it is a time to honor the incredible nurses who embody the spirit of compassion and care in all health care education, research, clinical, and community settings. Join us in recognizing the amazing contributions of nurses worldwide.

EMS WEEK (May 19-25)

May 19-25, 2024 marks the 50th Anniversary of EMS Week. This year's theme, “Honoring Our Past. Forging Our Future,” is a reminder for us to acknowledge the foundational work of those who built the EMS profession, who challenged the status quo, while also striving to build upon these efforts lead the next generation of EMS professionals. Please join us in showing our gratitude toward EMTs and paramedics who provide lifesaving care in our local communities every day.

NATIONAL STROKE AWARENESS MONTH

Finally, May is National Stroke Awareness Month.  This month, we encourage all members to engage with resources that highlight the warning signs, risk factors, and the latest innovations in stroke treatment and prevention.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment and active participation in our society. Your engagement is pivotal to our success and impact. We look forward to another month of learning, growth, and recognition.

Warm regards,

Dr. Barry Issenberg
2024-25 SSH President
