Did you know that 2024 marks the 20^th Anniversary of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare?

So much incredible growth has happened within our community over the past 20 years. It is humbling to have witnessed this growth firsthand.

I was first introduced to healthcare simulation in 2005 as a student at the University of Pittsburgh, where I had the amazing opportunity to hold a work study position at the Winter Institute for Simulation, Education, and Research (WISER). 

From there, when I started with SSH over 8 years ago, we had approximately 3,100 members. Five years later, we surpassed 5,000 members for the first time, and we continue to grow today! Since the introduction of our tiered membership rates in 2022 — barely two years ago — we have also seen an increase in international representation of our members and currently have SSH members in 70 countries. Talk about expanding the SSH and healthcare simulation message! 

Our SSH Sections, Special Interest Groups (SIGs), Affinity Groups, and regional groups continue to thrive as well.

In 2016, we had a total of 22 groups. Now, have 34 that focus on a number of disciplines within the field.  This number will also grow by the end of the year with several new groups in process – stayed tuned for more in the coming months on those!
