A Virtual Medical Simulation for On-site and Remote Learning

Overview: Vcom3D’s Immersive Modular Patient Care Team Trainer (IMPACTT) is a realistic, virtual team training system that allows medical teams to treat polytrauma patients as they work to improve their communications skills.

This is a scalable system that can be performed fully virtual or be supplemented with part-task trainers or manikins for hands-on skills training, based on student needs. Following the impact of the pandemic, we added a remote capability that allows team members to participate in virtual scenarios from anywhere in the world. We look forward to providing more information in this month’s SSH Virtual Learning Lab.

Enhancing experiential student-led simulated learning through the use of custom patients

Overview:The global COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated the challenges of providing students with authentic opportunities for workplace-based learning. At Liverpool John Moores University, academic staff on the undergraduate Master of Pharmacy programme developed, piloted and implemented a range of experiences for students, designed to simulate a wide range of “day in the life” experiences for students in a variety of settings.

Learn how the team at LJMU implemented immersive, student-led simulation events that could take place regardless of date, time and setting by creating custom patients across a variety of presenting conditions and clinical settings.
