Hello, and a happy 2023 to you!

As we begin January - one of the most important months annually for SSH - I want to take a few moments and share some key items with you on the eve of IMSH 2023.

First, you may have noticed some new names and positions popping up in email or phone conversations with SSH Staff. We’ve added many new faces, and promoted a few as well, over the last year! When you see them in Orlando, please welcome and/or congratulate these incredible individuals:

  • Rachel Araujo, SSH Director of Certification (new)
  • Betsy Holzwarth, SSH Accreditation & Certification Coordinator Level II (promotion)
  • Trenell Croskey, SSH Director of Continuing Education (promotion)
  • Hannah Trainer, SSH Senior Educational Program Coordinator (promotion)
  • Kayla Hendricks, SSH Educational Program Coordinator (new)
  • Kerri Rehder, SSH Educational Program Coordinator (new)
  • Ashley Grossman, SSH Director of Membership (promotion)
  • Becca Fletcher, SSH Senior Membership Coordinator (promotion)
  • Patricia Morgan, SSH Membership Coordinator (new)
  • Olivia Rosace, SSH Meetings & Exhibits Coordinator Level II (promotion)

And, one last staff update I would like to share with my sincere respect and appreciation …

Please join me in celebrating Kathy Adams, SSH Director of Education, who recently announced her retirement from the organization. We wish her the very best in the future and know SSH Education would not be the leading force it is without all of her critical work in leading its robust expansion and solid positioning in healthcare.

Everyone on staff is excited for what’s to come in a few weeks, including the 2023 SSH Research Summit and the 2023 International Meeting on Healthcare in Simulation!

The Summit, Jan. 20-21, promises to be a groundbreaker in many ways. Twelve distinct groups are prepared to share research with hundreds of attendees. Then, those in attendance will join small groups to provide their feedback on what is shared. That information and feedback will become the base of future healthcare simulation practice guidelines. Let me say that last part again…

That information and feedback will become the base of future healthcare simulation practice guidelines.

How incredibly exciting!

Please make plans to join the two-day event (Friday and Saturday) ahead of IMSH. The input shared, and the eventual outputs produced, both will be critical pieces to our industry going forward.

After the Summit wraps on Saturday, that night will bring the IMSH President’s Ball - the glitzy, can’t-miss event that has become the annual IMSH kickoff party and celebration ahead of Sunday’s official opening. After two days of research-driven discussion, the President’s Ball will be a perfect transition between events. Join us for that and everything after!

Orlando is still shaping up to be a phenomenal event, Jan. 21-25. We have a record-sized IMSH Exhibition Hall on tap. We have strong registration numbers. Everything says Orlando and the Orange County Convention Center will be the place to be for healthcare simulation professionals in just over two weeks. You can register and get more information here!

Finally, an SSH Board of Directors update…

In November, the Board met in person, along with several SSH Staff, to discuss and begin forming the organization’s strategic plan for the next 5-10 years. The session was very engaging and insightful, and I thank everyone, literally, who provided their thoughts and perspectives. The results of that highly productive meeting are being formed now. I hope and expect that we’re able to share SSH’s new strategic plan with you very, very soon.

On that note, thank you to President Haru Okuda for his leadership over the past year. The Society is better for it. The same is true thanks to the efforts from the entire Board this year as well, and I look forward to working with incoming President Jayne Smitten and the new Board beginning after IMSH.

Get registered for Orlando, and we’ll see you all in a few weeks!
