Rich Friedland, DPM

Rich FriedlandRich Friedland is serving as the Vice Chair of the Internal Relations Committee. He formerly served as Vice-Chair of the Membership Committee for 1.5 years, and has been a Member of SSH since 2012. In his current professional role, Rich serves as the Senior Director of Healthcare Information Technology Services for Stryker. Previously, Rich spent 20 years in Medical Education, and 8 years as a Podiatric Surgeon. His professional interests include digital technology innovation, virtual reality and simulation in education. Vice Chair

Alexis Battista, PhD

Alexis Battista is the Vice-Chair for the Internal Relations Committee. She is the immediate Past-Chair of the Sub-Committee for Sections, Special Interest Groups, and Affinity Groups, and a Past-Chair and co-founder of the Hospital Based Simulation Programs Section. She has been a member of SSH since 2006. In her professional role, Alexis is an Assistant Professor of Medicine for the Health Professions Education (HPE) program at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). Previously, Alexis was the Manager of the Clinical Simulation Center for MedStar Washington Hospital Center and the Education Coordinator for Fairfax County Fire and EMS. Her professional interests include instructional design and instructional methods in simulation-based learning environments, methodological issues in simulation-based research, and mixed-methods research design.  She can be reached by email at:


Internal Relations Committee

The Internal Relations Committee shall support the growth, development and advancement of the general membership, Sections, Special Interest Groups (SIGs), and Affinity Groups (AG) by developing and facilitating collaboration between and within interest groups, other Society committees, administration and the Board of Directors.
