February 5, 2015: The Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) is pleased to announce the awarding of the first twenty-one Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certifications. “The Operations Specialists are as varied and unique as the centers who employ them. Some have titles that include Simulation Technicians, Simulation Technology Specialists, and Simulation IT Specialists. Regardless of the title, the growing field of simulation operations is the result of the increasing demands for skills, knowledge and abilities to meet the operational needs of busy simulation centers and labs. The CHSOS communicates to current and future employers that they have the best that this field is offering to them“ said H. Michael Young, CHSE, Chair of the CHSOS Subcommittee. These first individuals who have received this distinction have demonstrated the knowledge and skills required to support and deliver quality healthcare simulations.

The new CHSOSs come from Israel, Qatar, and the United States—with many more to come. Operations Specialists, who must know a wide range of skills in various technologies and healthcare simulation methods, are an important part of ensuring that simulations run well.

This certification was designed to support and recognize these key individuals from all over the world. SSH would like to thank all of those from the simulation community who have helped to develop this certification collaboratively. The involvement of the community and other societies was essential in ensuring the development of a high-quality certification process.

For more information about this new certification, which is now available to all eligible applicants, can be found at http://www.ssih.org/Certification/CHSOS. For additional questions, please contact Andrew Spain at aspain@ssih.org.
