A message from SSH Executive Director, Jennifer Manos

Dear valued member,

First, our thoughts go out to the individuals, organizations, and communities that have been affected by COVID-19. In response to the increasing number of cases, domestically and around the world, I want to inform you of the precautions SSH is taking to protect the health and safety of our employees, our members, and our healthcare communities while maintaining our operational effectiveness of the Society.

The health and safety of our employees and members is our primary concern. In that light, SSH has suspended all international and domestic travel until further notice. This decision comes after we, as an organization, evaluated potential risks and determined it is in the best interest of the community we serve to suspend travel for SSH business. Additional guidance for travel and meetings will be determined and provided as the situation changes.

The SSH Accreditation Council implemented an emergency procedural change for this round of Full Accreditation and Reaccreditation applicants who are scheduled to have an onsite review. SSH Accreditation will perform a virtual accreditation review. This will be a full day review utilizing webcams by both the accreditation reviewers and program. The review day agenda will remain similar and the SSH Director of Accreditation, Kristyn Gadlage, will communicate directly with all reviewers and programs regarding this change. This is an emergency procedural change due to travel restrictions from COVID-19 and will not be an option in the future once travel restrictions are no longer in effect. If you have specific questions regarding SSH Accreditation, please contact Kristyn Gadlage (kgadlage@ssih.org).

Additionally, we have asked all staff to evaluate upcoming meetings and events and implement remote options for scheduled committee, commission, and/or council meetings, as needed. SSH is well prepared to conduct meetings in a remote environment and will utilize our experience to ensure the operations of the organization are not interrupted during this time.

SSH is proud to have 17 employees dedicated to the ongoing, daily operational effectiveness of the Society. We are a 100% virtual office which places us in a unique position to be able to handle remote work environments with extensive experience. SSH has robust technology in place that enables our staff and volunteer leadership team to efficiently and effectively manage operations and ensure we are meeting the needs of our members and the healthcare simulation community.

We are continually evaluating the data and guidance provided by the World Health Organization, CDC, and state and local health authorities related to travel, quarantine, meetings & events, and will adjust travel restrictions accordingly.

SSH values our commitment to our members, affiliate organizations, industry partners, and the healthcare community. We are committed to continuing SSH operations with minimal interruption.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact SSH via email at admin@ssih.org.
