This month, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) cited SSH's  (CHSE) as a recommended certification in their new NCSBN Simulation Guidelines for Prelicensure Nursing Programs.  

Published in the Journal of Nursing Regulation, the guidelines cite a study demonstrating that high-quality simulation experiences could be substituted for up to 50% of traditional clinical hours across the pre-licensure nursing curriculum. They also cite several additional studies supporting the use of simulation in nursing training, including one that found that simulation improved the critical thinking, performance of skills, knowledge of the subject matter, and increased clinical reasoning in certain areas.

August 31, 2015: The Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) announces a major milestone for the Certified Healthcare Simulation Educators (CHSE) program. Since its launch in 2012, over 600 individuals from 15 countries have successfully completed the examination. Achievement of CHSE demonstrates excellence, professionalism and a commitment to improving healthcare simulation education.

The Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) announces that, after nearly 11 years of service as founding and current Editor in Chief of the SSH peer-reviewed indexed journal Simulation in Healthcare, Dr. David Gaba has decided to step down as EIC no later than July 1, 2016 (one year from now). Dr. Gaba will remain on the Editorial Board. An open search for the new EIC will begin within the next one to two months, with a call for nominations (self or otherwise).   An EIC Search Task Force will be created to evaluate nominees and to advise the SSH Board of Directors as to a final selection.
